Worlds First 3G

Sunday, March 26, 2006
Research in Motion (RIM has partnered with Vodafone to bring the first 3G-enabled Blackberry device to market, Reg Hardware has learned. The machine is based on the 8700 series launched last year.

The 8707v is based on a 312MHz Intel PXA901 processor backed with 16MB of SRAM and 64MB of Flash memory. In addition to 3G connectivity, the handset provides quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GPRS operation, though it's not clear whether EDGE support is included as it is with regular 8700-series Blackberries. However, it seems the 3G modem is used exclusively for data.

New data transmission record - 60 DVDs per second

March 24, 2006 As the world’s internet traffic grows relentlessly, faster data transmission will logically become crucial. To enable telecommunications networks to cope with the phenomenal surge in data traffic as the internet population moves past a billion users, researchers are focusing on new systems to increase data transmission rates and it’s not surprising that the world data transmission record is continually under threat. Unlike records where human physical capabilities limit new records to incremental growth, when human ingenuity is the deciding factor, extraordinary gains are possible. German and Japanese scientists recently collaborated to achieve just such a quantum leap in obliterating the world record for data transmission. By transmitting a data signal at 2.56 terabits per second over a 160-kilometer link (equivalent to 2,560,000,000,000 bits per second or the contents of 60 DVDs) the researchers bettered the old record of 1.28 terabits per second held by a Japanese group. By comparison, the fastest high-speed links currently carry data at a maximum 40 Gbit/s, or around 50 times slower.

"You transmit data at various wavelengths simultaneously in the fiber-optic networks. For organizational and economic reasons each wavelength signal is assigned a data rate as high as possible", explains Prof. Hans-Georg Weber from the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich-Hertz-Institut HHI in Berlin, who heads a project under the MultiTeraNet program funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

A few weeks ago the scientist and his team established a new world record together with colleagues from Fujitsu. Data is transmitted in fiber-optic cables using ultrashort pulses of light and is normally encoded by switching the laser on and off. A pulse gives the binary 1, off the 0. You therefore have two light intensity states to transmit the data. The Fraunhofer researchers have now managed to squeeze more data into a single pulse by packing four, instead of the previous two, binary data states in a light pulse using phase modulation."

"Faster data rates are hugely important for tomorrow's telecommunications", explains Weber. The researcher assumes the transmission capacity on the large transoceanic traffic links will need to increase to between 50 and 100 terabits per second in ten to 20 years. "This kind of capacity will only be feasible with the new high-performance systems."

Intel to Architect Unwired Pune

In an exercise that the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) might care to take a leaf out of - the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has roped-in Intel India as the chief technology and program management consultant in order to build an "Unwired Pune" by 2007. The wireless communication network infrastructure will cover all 400 sq kms of Pune city.

PMC says that with this project, it intends to deliver an easy, seamless internet connectivity solution to its citizens, businesses and academic institutions.

Intel plans to utilize WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) technologies to equip Pune with high-speed wireless internet. Wireless connectivity will allow people to access the Internet through a laptop or personal digital assistant (PDA), sans the need for cables.

Under the deal, Intel will be responsible for developing an extensible, high-performance, technical architecture and detailed design to best suit PMC's requirements. Intel will inform and educate the PMC in state-of-the-art wireless technologies, through workshops and training programs. The onus of establishing an industry standard Project Management methodology to ensure efficient and economical undertaking of the overall project will also lie with Intel.

Dr Nitin Kareer, IAS and Commissioner of PMC, said, "As much as providing basic facilities such as sanitation, sewage, roads, street lights, health, etc, PMC would like to provide basic IT infra-structure such as stable internet connectivity to its citizens to
enhance their overall outlook by exploiting the vast information pool and advantages of Internet. This will surely be a huge differentiator for Pune city, and will enhance the status of moving Pune towards becoming the IT capital of the country."

Rajani Ravindra Tribhuvan, Hon'able Mayor of Pune, said, "Technology has slowly become an integral part of our daily lives. And, the internet has emerged as one of the quickest and the most cost-effective mediums of communication. 'Unwire Pune' showcases PMC's commitment to enable ubiquitous connectivity to all the stakeholders such as citizens, businesses, and educational institutions."

"Intel Solution Services provides in-depth knowledge and wide experience in implementing wireless technology the world
over, and brings its rich experience in replicating robust and reliable solutions to its customers. We are confident that Intel Solution Services will be able to deliver the desired results in Pune as well," Kareer said.

Rick Echevarria, vice president, Intel Software and Solutions Group, said, "Intel believes that wireless technology can help countries
revolutionize digitally. Standard-based wireless broadband connectivity can enable technologies to facilitate better education, healthcare, agricultural productivity and income while improving small business and e-government access. 'Unwire Pune' is a prestigious project for us, and we congratulate PMC for their strategic vision and pioneering efforts."

Windows Road Map is full of Potholes (needs a Fix) !

"Bringing Clarity to World" is the so called Tagline for Windows Vista

Is there any clarity in future of windows ???

Microsoft is day dreaming and having proposed the Next version of Vista Codename "Blackcomb" to be seen in 2010 !

Last time anyone in this Earth saw a Operating System from Micro$oft was half a decade ago (2001 October) since then Micr$ofts so called next Generation Operating System codename "Longhorn" Official name Windows Vista is in News and all for the Wrong reasons. I was introduced to Linux some time in 2002 my First Linux Operating System was Redhat 7.2 since then Redhat has come a long way and released about 7 Major Version yes that right seven !

Redhat 8,9, Fedora Core 1,2,3 & 4. Fedora Core 5 is on it way, almost every 6 months there a Major Release is out, the Power of Open Source I would say. A company like Microsoft who claimed to be a Leader in Software Industry is not able to relase a single Major Operating System since October 2001 upto today !

Next Windows to be seen in Late 2007 !

Till then Happy Windows XP SP2 ! :)

So far they have only managed to create new Desktop Theames and give it a fancy name like "AeroGlass". Copying the concepts from Mac os and giving new names like "Virtual Folder". and force customer to have a High End rig to Experience the Desktop Wallpaper !
The Minimun System requrement is RAW Shit, need atleast 512 MB Ram, external Graphics adapter of 128 MB and sits comfortably in 6 Gig of the HDD drive !

"No one will need more than 640 kb of memory"
- Bill Gates

Oh Yes Mr.Gates, Good One.

I am right now running on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition, far better than win xp sp 2 in terms of Perfomance, my rig is a P3 500 Mhz so there is a clear difference. To hold major clients of Windows 2003 they took survey form their major clients and come up with a Extension for Win 2003 called Windows 2003 R2 (Release 2).

It is time user have realised there are other great options like Mac OS 10.4, Red Hat Fedora Core 4, Suse Professional 9.0.

Now, Is this the End of Windows ?

More than Half of Windows Vista to be Re coded.

"Up to 60% of the code in the new consumer version of Microsoft new Vista operating system is set to be rewritten as the Company "scrambles" to fix internal problems, according to this report. In an effort to meet a deadline of the 2007 CES show in Las Vegas Microsoft has pulled programmers from the highly succesful Xbox team to help resolve many problems associated with entertainment and media centre functionality inside the OS. Much more at the link."

What`s the Deal with Nuke Deal ?

Friday, March 03, 2006
There is so much debate and discussions generated by the Media today like

The Bush`s visit to India,
The Nuclear Deal,
India willing to Seperating Civil and military Nuclear Program,
INDO-US CEO Forum,
Left Protesting Bushs Visit to India,
Mumbai Sensex making History best after Nuke Deal,
Bla Bla Bla Bla....

The Spotlight is on India. The World is waking up to India.

I would be glad If the Nuclear deal is Executed as planned, so far only the Seperation of Civil and Military Nuclear Program is agreed, and already critics from Countries like Pakistan and Iraq are expressing bad will.

Huh, Pakistan once again strongly showing the World that they are different from the Indian Broad Minded Frame Image.

So much for a small Positive Progress, why the f**k are critics jealous, can`t they clean their own country ?!
